Beechwood were an acoustic duo formed in
2004, consisting of Niven Smith and Chris Ashley and were going
to call themselves The Chumleys and go out performing comical
songs. This never really progressed because they'd got into a
more serious side of writing. Whilst
gigging at local pubs and folk clubs around the Midlands they
were getting comments from people on how good the music was and
how great it would sound with a full line up, this got Niven and
Chris thinking about the further possibilities of getting a full
band together. Robin Crump, a local
singer/songwriter teamed up with them in January 2008, 6 months
later Pete Taylor heard some songs by Beechwood and liked what
he heard and joined up too. Although a blues bass player, he
fitted in with the folk/rock sound of the band. Pete Lovatt came
along a month later and even though he'd come from a hardcore
metal drumming background, he fitted in nicely with the
Beechwood sound. As a now fully formed
line-up, Beechwood soon put together a ful set-list and began
gigging around the Midlands area and beyond. Playing pub gigs,
jam nights, "shop window" events, talent contests and
festivals. Beechwood then recorded
"The Summer EP" at "Musoplex" recording
studios in Oldbury with Si Reeves. AUK Limited then later
decided to add Beechwood’s "The Summer EP" to the
label’s catalogue.
In 2009 Beechwood released "The Summer EP" on the AUK label. Consisting of 4 tracks the EP is a prelude to a forthcoming planned album release. |
| In May 2010 Pete Lovatt sadly passed
away. Beechwood now intend to try and fill the huge gap left
by Peter and enlist a new drummer and begin touring with a new
line-up in late 2010.
Until then, Beechwood will continue to drive for the increased visibility, recognition and sales of "The Summer EP." Check out the bands MYSPACE page for more information ! |
